A pair of miniatures: a young gentleman, seated on an upholstered chair, in blue coat, white waistcoat, frilled white cravat, his left arm resting on a hardstone table, and a young lady, seated on a giltwood chair draped with a red cashmere shawl, in white Empire dress, her right arm resting on the back of the chair; both with wood-panelled interior
Signed and dated 'Bouvier 1806' (mid-left and mid-right, respectively)
On ivory
87 mm. diam., gilt-metal mount within ormolu frames

The Collection of Dr Victor Zuckerkandl (1851-1927) and his wife Paula née Freund (d. 1927), Berlin.
The sale of their estate, auction house C. J. Wawra, Vienna, 7-8 May 1928, lots 66 and 67 (unsold and subsequently transferred to Dr Fritz Zuckerkandl, heir and nephew of the previous).
