Lot Essay

A very closely related depiction of Bhairava with his consort riding on an Elephant also accompanied by a dog is in the collection of the British Museum and attributed to Kangra, circa 1790-1800, (Roda Ahluwalia, Rajput Painting: Romantic, Divine and Courtly Art from India, London, 2008, no.106, p.159.
