A CINNABAR LACQUER CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER INCISED AND GILT MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The exterior of the cover is finely carved with a central roundel enclosing a scene of Ni Zan observing two attendants cleaning a wutong tree, all within a moutainous landscape reserved on various diaper grounds. The sides of the cover and the box are carved with intricate floral medallions. The interior and base are lacquered black. There is a four-character inscription to the interior of the cover reading Xitong Baohe, 'Washing the Wutong, Treasure Box'.
8 1/2 in. (21.6 cm.) diam.
