FROM THE COLLECTION OF DR. MARCUS JACOBSON
A prominent scholar of developmental neurobiology, Dr. Marcus Jacobson (1930-2001) amassed an important collection of modern Chinese paintings throughout his lifetime. His love affair with China began at an early age; at seventeen, he purchased his first Chinese painting in his native South Africa. In 1976, he arrived in Utah as a professor of anatomy and neurobiology. He acted as a visiting professor in Guangzhou, Beijing and Nantong during several trips to China between 1983 and 1996, and became acquainted with artists including Cheng Shifa, Zhu Qizhan and Gu Wenda, from whom he directly acquired some of his collection. The present group of paintings has previously been exhibited at the University of Utah Museum of Fine Arts.
