PRESENTATION COPY, the front free endpaper inscribed, “Anthony with love from Cyril, June 63” and further inscribed beneath the frontispiece “A torpedo-shaped [?]harranaya.” This spoof of James Bond, written with Ian Fleming’s encouragement, was published in The London Magazine in April 1963, a copy of which is included in the lot, in addition to some galley proofs for the same heavily marked up by Connolly. Also included is a 2-page autograph letter from Cyril Connolly to Anthony Hobson, undated, on the subject of the revised Bond proof, how another version of it went missing in the post, and suggesting the “30[sic] copies” of the limited edition “constitute a true 1st edition.”
