A PAIR OF ZITAN INCENSE STANDS, XIANGJI
LATE 18TH-EARLY 19TH CENTURY
The square top is raised on a narrow waist carved with archaistic dragon scroll above the shaped apron carved with dragons confronting a flaming pearl. The whole is raised on thick legs of square section terminating in hoof feet and set into a square base stretcher raised on small tab feet.

Lot Essay

A pair of shorter zitan incense stands (75.2 cm. high), with thumb-grooved edge and hoof feet, from the Robert H. Ellsworth Collection, was sold at Christie's New York, 18 March 2015, lot 147.
