A SMALL CARVED RED LACQUER CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
MING DYNASTY, 15TH CENTURY
The top is well carved with a scene of scholars, one shown leaning on an armrest and holding a ruyi scepter as he relaxes on a kang, while another sits on a stool holding a book. In the background bronzes are displayed on a low table in front of a screen. The shallow sides are carved with key fret, and there is a Xuande mark inscribed on the base.
