Lot Essay

The present three drawings form part of a series that Blake undertook between 1973 and 1977 titled `Nature and Culture, Woman'. The images were taken from a group of 120 photographs selected by Dr Peter Landow and published in 1928. The nudes were all designated by their country of origin, hence the titles that Blake has given them.
