With Audemars Piguet fitted presentation box. According to the Archive of Audemars Piguet the present watch was manufactured in 1943 with white dial signed Audemars, Piguet Geneve with 12 and 6 Arabic number with index in gold, Tachymetre in base 1000, hands in gold and 33,3 mm diameter case in the shape 255, and it was sold in 1947.
The present watch is preserved in excellent original unrestored condition. Fitted with a very elegant dial, the gold Arabic 6 and 12 numerals and pyramidal indexes are only found on the very best Audemars Piguet watches of the period. This watch is certainly one of the most refined and classic Audemars Piguet chronographs to be offered publically in recent times.
Known from the Archives as “shape 255”, it is one of the rarest Audemars Piguet chronograph models of the mid-20th century. Only 60 examples of this type were made in total, in fact the company made fewer than 350 chronograph watches across all models between the 1930s and the 1970s. The olive-shaped chronograph pushers, called “navette” by Audemars Piguet are a feature of the company’s chronographs of the 1930s and 40s.
