Created in 2013 as a collaboration between Philip Stahl, Daniel Bourn and the Rolex customization specialists Project X design, the Heritage Submariner HS01 was designed to pay homage to the great ‘big crown’ Submariners on the 60th anniversary of the models introduction. Starting with the modern no date ‘maxi case’ Submariner reference 114060 as its foundation, the case was then heavily modified: wide bevels applied to the lugs, the crown guard removed, a new old stock Brevet crown and tube fitted and the lug dot removed from the bezel to allow for the triangle to be painted red. On the dial the luminous material was replaced with a simulated aged version to give the warm appearance of radium which has aged over the last 60 years without the radioactive side effects, and the second hand was replaced with a white enamel version. The overall effect is that of a truly modern homage to one of the most iconic watches ever made.
