Aquatint and engraving, images 533/525 x 758/752 mm (637/629 x 875/867 mm sheets). (A few short marginal tears, some light staining.) Matted and framed.
A pair of aquatints after John Vanderlyn. The first engraved view of the Niagara Falls appears in Hennepin, Nouvelle decouverte d'un tres grand pays situé dans l'Amerique… in 1697. Vanderlyn “was the first professionally trained artist to visit the falls with the intention of depicting them in finished paintings” (Albany Institute of History and Art, New York, 1998 p. 76). Penney Collection 35 and 36.
