Lot Essay

Suzanne Valadon was the first female artist ever to be admitted into the prestigious Societe National des Beaux-Arts and re-invented the still life with vibrant, emotionally charged compositions and colours, as well as the characteristic dark lines that often frame the subject of her works and visible in the present work, painted in 1920.
