Lot Essay

This stool is an attractive hybrid between a scholar’s rock and a stool, or even possibly a stand, with a good sense of movement created by the dynamic between the pointed overhang on one side and the jutting protrusion at the base on the opposite side. The greyish stone has the deeply wrinkled, scarred surface and protruding veins typical of Wen stones, and a natural patina that shows its age.
