First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by Heyward on the front free endpaper: “To Crosby Gaige / with cordial greetings from / DuBose Hayward.” Gaige produced the original production of “Porgy,” which was developed, with George and Ira Gershwin, into “Porgy and Bess.” A fine association copy in superb condition, the jacket virtually untouched.
8vo. Original black gilt-decorated and -lettered cloth; original pictorial dust jacket printed on recto and verso. Provenance: Crosby Gaige (1882-1942), Broadway producer, small press publisher, and book collector (presentation inscription from the author).
