Lot Essay

Heuer introduced the Carrera chronograph in 1963. Jack Heuer sought to design a chronograph with excellent readability in an interesting case shape. The design of this case was inspired by 1960s modernist architecture and the name was inspired by a legendary (and frequently deadly) car race through Mexico called Carrera Panamericana. The present watch is distinguished by its excellent condition and rare and highly attractive panda dial. While the majority of reference 2447 Carrera were produced with silvered dial, those combining the clear legibility of the argent finish with the black subsidiary dials are highly coveted by collectors, making this watch a wonderful acquisition for an aficionado of 1960s sports chronographs.”
