KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
The group is modelled with Wenchang, seated to the centre on an animal skin-covered throne beside two acolytes, all behind a table with a brush rest, pen, inkstone, and paper.

Wenchang, the God of culture and literature, became very popular in the Qing dynasty and was worshipped by the literati, particularly candidates of the civil service examination.
