NOTE:
Inscription on box by Takahashi Korekiyo (1854-1936). Takahashi was a Japanese politician who served as a member of the House of Peers, as the 20th Prime Minister of Japan from 13 November 1921 to 12 June 1922, and as the head of the Bank of Japan and Ministry of Finance. He made many contributions to Japan’s development during the early 20th century, including pulling Japan out of the Depression. In 1941, his Tokyo residence was re-constructed to become “Takahashi Korekiyo Memorial Park” in Minato Ward, Akasaka. In 1951, Takahashi’s portrait appeared on the 50 Yen banknote issued by the Bank of Japan.
