Lot Essay

Ancient Chinese aesthetics reached their peak during the Song and Yuan periods. This qin stand was inspired by traditional Shanxi style furniture as discussed in 'C.L. Ma Collection: Traditional Chinese Furniture from the Greater Shanxi Region', 1999, Hong Kong, page 166, No 71. This stand is made of baisuanzhi wood (Latin: Dalbergia oliveri) with materials carefully selected and seasoned through a strict process to provide stability of the final form. The master craftsman has applied traditional techniques in the carving of the fine, elegant lines to achieve the perfect re-transmission of Song and Yuan styles.
