Lot Essay

This picnic basket was a gift to David Rockefeller from King Hassan II of Morocco, probably as part of the 1986 celebrations to commemorate the King’s 25th anniversary of rule. A large American delegation including William J. Casey, Director of Central Intelligence, Vernon A. Walters, chief delegate to the United Nations, and Charles Z. Wick, head of the United States Information Agency, as well as David Rockefeller, were sent to show the strength of American relations with Morocco. The porcelain and glass feature the King’s cypher, H II.
