A LARGE STRAW-GLAZED AMPHORA
TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907)
The tall, ovoid body is applied on the shoulder with four leaf-shaped appliqués impressed with foliate motifs, below a grooved triple band around the neck flanked by a pair of double-strap handles rising to the dragon-head terminals which are biting the rim of the cup-shaped mouth decorated with appliqué. The vessel is covered with a glaze of pale grey-green tone stopping in an irregular line on the lower body to expose the whitish ware.
