Lot Essay

This animated and vibrantly executed thangka depicts most likely the war-god dPa ‘brtan dmag po riding his horse. He belongs to the group of local divinities that were taken up in the extended Tibetan Buddhist pantheon. His five assistants are surrounding him and ride each a different animal. The upper register portrays Padmasambhava in the centre.
