Lot Essay

In spring 1968, Procktor met Gervase Griffiths, a twenty two year-old model and pop singer, who would became one of his life's greatest love affairs. Griffiths would soon moved to Procktor’s house at Manchester Street, and would become the subject of numerous drawings and paintings. ‘Griffiths was in fact a period archetype, prettier than Mick Jagger, though with a similar charismatic androgyny which made him a magnet to both sexes' (see I. Massey, Patrick Procktor: Art and Life, Norwich, 2010, p. 98).
