Always associated with elegance and exquisite craftsmanship, Cartier has become throughout the years an icon in haute horology. Staying true to its origins and classic designs, the manufacture has been celebrated for creations such as the Tank, introduced in 1917 taking inspiration from the top view of the very first Renault military tank vehicles, the Santos, introduced in the early 1900's, made for the aviator Albert Santos Dumont and considered the first purpose-designed modern wristwatch as well as the Tortue, a wristwatch of pioneering design imagined in 1912 at a time when most timepieces were round. Made to resemble a turtle, a very popular animal during this era and a symbol of good fortune and longevity in many civilisations, the first tortue model was the precursor of numerous watchmaking creations in the early 20th century, the first examples of the tortue were destined for ladies, the gentleman’s version featuring a single button chronograph was available as of 1928.
Staying true to its origins, the current wristwatch retains the case shape of the original model and is fitted with a single button chronograph of the finest quality. With a case crafted of 18K white gold, the timepiece features an attractive engine-turned dial, made of 18K gold as seen on other timepieces of the Collection Privée de Cartier Paris. The movement is of the finest decorated by engravings representing the iconic interlaced C of Cartier and visible through the glazed display of the case back.
In very good overall condition, the timepiece can be considered a prime example of the reference, carefully cherished by the current owner, an important European private collector who meticulously kept all the accessories, additional straps and the certificate of the timepiece.
