Fresh to the auction market, the present timepiece was kept throughout the years in excellent overall condition and is offered directly by its original owner. Purchased at Patek Philippe in Paris, the wristwatch captivates with its highly distinctive case, taking inspiration from the smaller reference 2554 from the 1950s, also known as the “Manta Ray”. Produced in a limited edition in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium, this reference 5100 is offered will all its documentation and accessories.
Very attractive, the timepiece was manufactured to the highest standard. Stamped with the Geneva seal and created with a double barrel, the movement features a power reserve of 240 hours, considered extremely challenging at the time of its development when the best performing competitors were reaching a maximum of 100 to 192 hours. Made from 1999 to 2001 by Ateliers Réunis, the cases of the reference were crafted from a block of gold, carefully finished by hand and requiring 188 separate operations in order to reach this complex rectangular shape. Highly attractive, the dials of the reference 5100 were made by Stern Créations, with a silver brushed finish and applied indexes matching the case metal for the pink gold versions.
The 5100R was made In a total of 3,000 pieces, our of which 1,500 examples were made in yellow gold, 750 in pink gold , 450 in white gold and 300 in platinum, the latter with a flawless Top Wesselton diamond set between the lugs at 6 o’clock.
