INSPIRATION EGYPTIENNEDes réminiscences de l’art égyptien ont toujours inspiré l’histoire de la joaillerie. Dès la fin du XVIIIe siècle, les campagnes d'Égypte de Napoléon rapportent une grammaire de motifs pharaoniques. Certains bijoux de l’Époque Art Nouveau comme cette pièce de René Lalique s’inspirent de l’Egypte. En France, à partir du début du XIXe siècle, l'égyptomanie touche toutes les maisons de la place Vendôme. Les bijoux de la maison Mellerio prouvent que l’Égypte est aussi extrêmement présente sous le second Empire, comme le montrent certains dessins de bracelets ornés d'une tête de pharaon. Plus tard, en 1922, l'attrait pour l'Égypte sera relancé par la découverte du tombeau de Toutankhamon. Van Cleef & Arpels réalisera alors des bijoux, représentant des scènes égyptiennes avec des figures de profil s'agrémentant de symboles égyptiens comme la fleur de lotus, le papyrus et les scarabées. Dans les années 1980, Cartier relancera le gout avec la collection « Nouvelle Égypte » reprenant les motifs égyptiens.EGYPTIAN INSPIRATIONReminiscences of Egyptian art have always inspired the history of jewellery. At the end of the 18th century, Napoleon's Egyptian campaigns brought back a range of pharaonic and Egyptian motifs. Some Art Nouveau jewels like this piece by René Lalique are inspired by Egypt. In France, from the beginning of the 19th century, Egyptomania affected all the place Vendôme maisons. Mellerio jewels prove that Egypt was also very present under the Second Empire, as shown by some drawings of bracelets decorated with a pharaoh's head. Later, the attraction for Egypt was revived by the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. Van Cleef & Arpels made jewellery representing Egyptian scenes, with figures in profile and Egyptian symbols, lotus flowers, papyrus and scarabs. In the 1980s, Cartier revived the taste with the collection ‘Nouvelle Egypte’ featuring Egyptian motifs.
