MERCURY AVIATORS – Photograph signed by three Mercury astronauts. [Taken in 1961.]

One of the earliest photographs of all seven Mercury astronauts, signed by three with individual spacecraft names.

A large print of the Mercury Seven posing in front of an F-106 jet. They are wearing aircraft flight gear issued by their particular branch of the armed services. Gordon Cooper is noted for saying that this particular photograph motivated NASA to create the standard blue flight suits that they and all later astronauts would wear. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Gordon COOPER: “Project Mercury Astronauts, The Original 7, Gordon Cooper, Faith 7;” and by Scott CARPENTER and Wally SCHIRRA with their spacecraft names.

Large color photograph, 16 by 20 inches.
