Over the years, Rolex made special series of timepieces for various organizations, including military divisions of various countries. One of these organizations has been the Peruvian Air Force. FAP Rolexes (Acronym of Fuerza Aérea del Perú) are nowadays extremely collectible, due to their rarity and difficulty of finding well-preserved specimens.
The present ref. 1675 is one of these exceedingly few “FAP GMT-Masters” to appear in public to date. Consigned by a private collector it is preserved in excellent overall condition, the MK2 dial free from any cosmetic enhancements. The case has retained full proportions, the engraved inscription “FUERZA AEREA DEL PERÚ” is crisp. Bezel and bracelet are the correct versions for the model, likewise in very good overall condition.
Some features distinguish the FAP GMT-Master from normal production models, including the engraving Fuerza Aérea del Perú on the outside of the case back and the serial number on the inside which is normally found only between the lugs. This engraving changed over time from just the last three digits of the number to its entirety in later versions, as the present watch.
