Lot Essay
The present work is typical of Banting's surrealism of the thirties: the tension between straight and sinuous lines, between construction and emotion. The pillar-like structure in the middle of the composition reminds one of the guitar strings he used to resort to in order to create rhythms. Also typical is the outline of the face on the left, which reminds us of the human element faced with his own constructions.
