Lot Essay

This remarkably preserved rug showcases the exceptional weaving of Agra carpets of the nineteenth century. The rich ruby-red field and overall lattice design are comparable to a larger Agra carpet sold Christie's, London, 7 December 2018, lot 517. While Agra carpets are more commonly associated with large, imposing proportions, our example is particularly unusual for its small format which would suit a number of interiors.
