MAYAN DIGNITARY

The long-legged, corpulent figure standing with large feet outturned, an outstretched arm and cupped hand probably grasping a weapon, distinguished by the diminutive head with extended nose bridge once covered by a removable headdress with an attachment on the reverse (now missing), attired in a long sashed loincloth, wide bib with streamers, extensively painted in dark and bright Maya blue.

Lot Essay

Statuette en terre cuite avec traces de colorants bleu maya représentant un personnage debout sur de longues jambes distinctes, avec le bras gauche tendu en avant et la main gauche entrouverte tenant probablement autrefois une arme, à la tête aux proportions réduites autrefois surmontée d’une coiffe amovible et anciennement fixée avec un appendice arrière qui remontait par-dessus la tête et qui a désormais disparu, vêtu d’un pagne noué à la taille et d’une large collerette à trois rabats à pans retombants.
