MARK OF ROBERT CALDERWOOD, DUBLIN, CIRCA 1760
Shaped oval, with gadrooned border, engraved with a coat-of-arms with earl's coronet above, marked underneath, with scratch weights 17:10 and 17:15
11 5/8 in. (29.5 cm.) long
32 oz. 15 dwt. (1,109 gr.)
The arms are those of Clements impaling Skeffington, for Robert Clements, 1st Earl of Leitrim (1732-1804) of Killadoon, co. Kildare, and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Clotworthy, 1st Earl of Maserene, whom he married in 1765. Clements was created Baron Leitrim in 1783, Viscount Leitrim in 1793 and Earl of Leitrim in 1795. A set of twelve dinner-plates similarly engraved from Lord Leitrim's dinner-service was offered at Christie's, London, 25 November 2008, lot 210.
