Lot Essay
Important trading card was submitted to the United States Copyright Office for purposes of obtaining a copyright by the Goudey Gum Company. A pair of stamps were applied to the back by the Copyright office with the first noting the date ("Sep -6 1933") and the other being a reference number. It has been generally accepted that two of each card were submitted with one kept on file and the other returned to the Company. They were discovered within old Company files by a collector in 1969 and have occassionally traded hands since that time. Ruth remains the single most desirable subject within the 1933 Goudey set and this particular pose ranks among the most recognizable trading cards ever issued.
