Lot Essay

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Rodgers was inspired to organize a re-recording of his hit song We Are Family from 1979 with a diverse group of artist, actors, personalities, first responders, and local citizens affected. In less than two weeks a powerful music video and documentary were crafted "to use the song's message and uplifting beat to mobilize the world and commence the healing process" (WeAreFamilyFoundation.org).

Soon thereafter, a children's version was created, bringing together characters from shows on Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, and PBS. It first aired in March of 2002, six months after the attacks to encourage feelings of healing, togetherness, diversity and tolerance. This 2001 Fender Stratocaster was signed by various children's program characters during the recording of this landmark music video.
