This exceptionally rare 930 Targa is an important piece of music history as it was purchased new by Nile Rodgers and used by him throughout the heyday of his career. According to Rodgers, legendary musicians like Gene Simmons, Diana Ross, Billy Idol and Madonna rode in the car with him, among countless others. Rodgers recently recalled that he would pull up to the Roxy or Studio 54 in the Porsche and leave it parked outside because it was a showpiece that the club owners loved having out front. Rodgers also brought the Targa with him to Los Angeles when he was working on a string of Paramount films, including Coming to America, Blue Chips and Beverly Hills Cop III.
Since its market launch in MY 1975, the 930 (also referred to as the 911 Turbo) has been the top-of-the-range model in the 911 model line. Only twenty-seven 930 Turbo Targas were built to US specification for model year 1987, making it one of the rarest Porsches of the era. Moreover, Rodgers’ Targa is the even rarer and more desirable “Flachbau” or Slant-Nose model, reminiscent of the successful Porsche racecars of the period. Of the twenty-seven mentioned, only nine were ordered with the Flachbau code (special code M505). The Porsche is finished in a handsome black over black color combination and Rodgers recalled that at some point there was some accident repair work done to the rear of the car. The 930 is equipped with dual Rockford Fosgate subwoofers in the front trunk and a Sony head unit in the passenger compartment and on Ruf wheels. The is a special and incredibly rare opportunity to acquire a charismatic piece of music history that was an important part of Nile Rodgers’ career.
