Rectangular, the sides chased and applied in high relief with scenes depicting allegories of love and war, including battles and courtly Renaissance figures, as well as flowers, fruits, animals, and rocaille, the base rims applied with scrolls and rocaille, the hinged covers chased with flowers and scrolls and with bird, bee, and foliage-form finials, marked on sides
