Patek 5077P-015 ‘Papillon 3’
Offered in superb like new condition and with full set, this platinum limited edition reference 5077P-015 has an incredibly beautiful “Butterfly” cloisonné dial, showing in great and realistic detail the butterfly’s vibrant colours. To the best of our knowledge, the present watch is the first example of the ‘Papillon 3’ to be offered at auction.
Originally only available as part of a set of watches when first offered to Patek Philippe's most important clients, this reference 5077P was launched in 2003 with each watch of the set being made with a different butterfly themed cloisonné dial. The present watch affords collectors the perfect opportunity to obtain an individual piece from one of these exclusive and much sought after sets. Less than 10 examples of the present reference 5077P-015 platinum Calatrava are likely to have been made, each cloisonné enamel dial being unique and hand-made as one of the superb creations of Patek Philippe’s rare handicrafts division. The cloisonné enamel uses a myriad of enamel colours and enamel paint; a minimum of 11 firings and a total of around 45 hours of work. To make each dial, 60 cm of gold wire is required. The platinum case has a diameter of 38 mm. and houses the famous Patek Philippe caliber 240 automatic movement.
