Lot Essay

Patek Philippe’s Nautilus is perhaps the most desired model of all the company’s production wristwatches, indeed it is one of the ultimate luxury status symbols in the world.
Very few examples of the pre-40th Anniversary Nautilus references were ever made in platinum and they are the most elusive of models for the collector to find today. Christie’s is therefore delighted to present this ultra-rare full set Platinum Nautilus reference 5711/1P-010. Extremely hard to find, this watch is only the fifth example to be offered at auction and represents a remarkable opportunity for the determined collector to possess a wristwatch that is already part of Patek Philippe’s mythology.
The present reference 5711/1P-010 was purchased new by the owner of the ‘Champion Collection’, since that time it has remained in superb overall condition and is accompanied by the full set of accessories.

Made in a very limited number and offered only to Patek Philippe’s most loyal clients, reference 5711/1P-010 never featured in any Patek Philippe catalogue, it is thought that only around 20 pieces were made. One of the most coveted timepieces among Patek Philippe’s contemporary production and one of the undoubted grails for collectors of the Nautilus model, it is distinguished by its vibrant blue dial which, unlike its stainless steel counterparts, has a framed date window at 3 o’clock and the “Patek Philippe” and “Geneve” text on a flat surface instead of being printed over the ribbed pattern in the usual way. In common with all modern production Patek Philippe watches, it has a diamond set in the band of the bezel at 6 o’clock. Further Enhancing its exclusivity and appeal is the heavy platinum Nautilus bracelet.

The present watch affords collectors with the exceptional opportunity to possess one of the ultimate trophies among luxury precious metal Nautilus.
