L'Apparition
etching, 1630, on laid paper, watermark Bird in a Circle (probably with Letters A and N) (see Mannocci 6, Rome, early 1630s), a very fine, atmospheric and silvery impression, the very rare first state a (of five), before the scratch in the sky between the tree in the foreground and the tree in the middle distance, printing with subtle tonality and delicate inking in the right foreground, with narrow margins to thread margins on all sides, trimmed slightly unevenly to the platemark at lower left, with minor paper losses at the upper left sheet edge, some pale pinpoint foxmarks, remains of tape at upper and left sheet edges verso, otherwise in good condition
