The group comprises a seated boy holding a small dog, a boy holding a lotus spray, a boy reclining with his head on a drum, a standing boy holding a fruit, a boy acolyte standing with hands together, a figure of Shennong (god of agriculture) holding a hoe and a basket and wearing a skirt of leaves, and a wild boar on an oval plaque.

Lot Essay

A group of five Northern Song miniature red pottery boys in the Zhengjiang City Museum is illustrated in Zhongguo wenwu jinghua daquan: taocijuan (The Compendium of Chinese Archaeological Treasures: Ceramics Volume), Hong Kong, 1993, p. 171, no. 584. A related miniature pottery figure of a girl is in the Royal Ontario Museum, accession no. 920.1.157.
