LAWRENCE, D. H. (1885-1930). Lady Chatterley's Lover. [Florence]: Privately printed, [Tipografia Giuntina], 1928.

First edition, limited issue, number 964 of 1000 copies signed by the author. Lawrence commissioned the Tipografia Guintina in Florence to print Lady Chatterley's Lover in the spring of 1928 after it was rejected by several English publishers. He planned to sell the one thousand numbered copies for £2 each and sent order forms to friends in America and Europe who acted as agents in distributing copies. By December 1928, Lawrence had sold nearly all one thousand copies despite the fact that the novel was about to be suppressed in London and was stopped from entering the United States.

Octavo. (Occasional finger soiling.) Original mulberry paper boards, phoenix stamped in black to upper board, with printed paper spine label, uncut (slight crease to top of spine); custom box.
