Lot Essay

Born in 1895, George Herman "Babe" Ruth began his baseball career as a star pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, before achieving fame for his batting while playing as an outfielder for the New York Yankees from 1920-1934. Ruth is regarded as one of the greatest American sports heroes, and was one of the first five inaugural members elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
