Originally introduced in 1976 as reference 3700, the Patek Philippe Nautilus was a groundbreaking watch that strived for luxury and modernity through the use of steel and an integrated bracelet. Over the decades, the timepiece underwent minor changes until the introduction of references 5711 and 5712 in 2006. The models marked the 30th year anniversary of the storied timepiece and signified a new era for the Nautilus.
Only a few years later in 2009, Patek Philippe released an elevated 18k white gold version of the 5712 enhanced with 50 incredibly bright and lustrous baguette diamonds set into the bezel, “end links,” and clasp, totaling an impressive 8.31 carats. Furthermore, the the hour markers were diamonds which contrasted nicely against the silvered, ridged blue dial. This new model was designated as reference 5724.
The present 5724G-001 has a contemporary three-part case construction made from 18k white gold and features an asymmetrical dial which displays the date, moon phases, power reserve, and running seconds. The timepiece also has a sapphire caseback to view in-house caliber 240 PS IRM C LU featuring Côtes de Genève, anglage polishing, and a 22k yellow gold micro-rotor to help the watch remain slim while maintaining automatic-winding capabilities. Discontinued in 2020, very few examples of reference 5724G-001 were produced during its 11-year production life, making the present lot a highly attractive proposition to own an elusive and rare contemporary Nautilus timepiece from Patek Philippe.
