With demilune white marble top with pierced ormolu gallery, the conforming frieze with a drawer mounted with ormolu cannelures on columnar supports with conforming marble undertier, circular tapering legs, stamped 'CC SAUNIER' to the proper left back stile, the mirrored back probably added in the 19th century
35 ¾ in. (89.5 cm.) high, 45 in. (114.5 cm.) wide, 18 in. (46 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

Claude-Charles Saunier, maître in 1752.

Two consoles dessertes stamped by C.C. Saunier of closely related form with identical ormolu mounts, are illustrated in Jean Nicolay, Maîtres Ebenistes Français au XVIII siècle, p. 428 fig. E, p. 429 fig. D; a slightly larger console-desserte, also by Saunier, with identical mounts, is illustrated in Comte de Salverte les Ebenistes du XVIIIe Siècle, pl. LXIII fig. 2; and another similar console by Saunier is in the collection of the Rijkmuseum.
