Lot Essay

This rare representative of the celebrated 'Calatrava' series impresses with the highly elegant combination of a 38 mm. platinum case, bezel embellished with 38 baguette-cut diamonds, and the black lacquer dial set with baguette and square-cut diamond indexes. Like all platinum Patek Philippe watches, it is set with a small flawless diamond between the lugs at 6 o’clock. According to the Certificate of Origin, the present timepiece is set with a total of 44 baguette-cut diamonds with a total weight of 3.87 carats and a single diamond of 0.018 carats.

Reference 5298 was launched in 2011 and remained in Patek Philippe’s catalogues until 2016. It was made only in platinum. To the best of our knowledge, only four other examples of this rare model have appeared in public to date.

In 2009, Patek Philippe created a new quality benchmark for its mechanical timepieces: the Patek Philippe Seal. This new emblem of horological excellence goes beyond any existing standards of the Swiss watch industry. Uniquely, the Patek Philippe Seal applies to the completely assembled watch as delivered to its owner. In conjunction with these standards, the Seal represents a commitment to lifelong servicing and restoration for all timepieces created by the firm since 1839.
