Lot Essay

The canted corners to the back of this model of chair is an unusual feature which occurs on a fauteuil à la Reine stamped by Pierre Bernard (1730-1788), which also features spirally-fluted legs, now in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris (Inv. No. 7960).
