Lot Essay

We are very grateful to Richard Shone for his assistance in cataloguing this lot.

The Flower Gatherers was chosen for the British Council's touring exhibition, Exposicion de Arte Britanico Contemporaneo, which travelled around South America between 1943-44. The selection of works was made by a committee which included Sir Kenneth Clark and Herbert Read. For the opening of the Montevideo part of the exhibition, The Flower Gatherers was chosen as the cover of the invitation (please contact the department for an image).
