Lot Essay

Painted in 2015, Crossroads Dancing is part of Rita Duffy's important Souvenir Shop project held in Dublin in 2016. Growing up in Belfast, the artist works in the figurative/narrative tradition, and her enquiries into questions of Irish identity, history and politics often stem from autobiographical experience. In the present work, Duffy is inspired by a vision of her parents dancing a four hand reel at their wedding in 1954.

We are very grateful to the artist for her assistance with cataloguing this lot.
