Lot Essay

Excessively playful and evocative of Jansen's signature mid-century style, this pair of palm trees compares with another supplied by Stéphane Boudin of Maison Jansen circa 1950 for the Dining Room of Les Embruns, Margaret Thompson Biddles's house in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France (illustrated in J. Abbott, Jansen, New York, 2006, p.156). Another example, sold A Century of Style: Works from the Collection of Audrey Zauderer, Sotheby's, New York, 21 April 2021, lot 477 ($478,800 including premium).
