The arrangement of the Magdalene's legs in the present work can be compared to a large upright painting by Franceschini of The Penitent Mary Magdalene at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, painted circa 1700-05 (inv. no. 225), and also to a drapery study executed by the artist in red chalk (private collection; fig. 1).
