Renzo Cotarella on Tignanello:
“Looking at the vintages of this unprecedented vertical collection, it is fascinating to see how Tignanello has evolved in these past 50 years, both from a technical and stylistic point of view, yet remaining true to distinguished identity and unmistakable character."
Being quality and identity the unfailing requirements for Tignanello, some vintages have definitely helped us to better understand the terroir and to interpret its unique character, while adapting to the different vintages. Looking back at the 80s for example, even underrated vintages like 1983 or 1986 were able to give a great interpretation of Tignanello, thanks to the ability of that unique soil to characterize the wine. That reinforced our belief in the great potential of this exceptional hill. The learning process continued in the 90s with the replanting of the vineyard, based on a careful analysis of the site, identifying the differences and special characteristics of each individual vineyard parcel. This allowed for the selection of a series of biotypes. This is also a special decade for me as it marks my direct involvement in the Tignanello winemaking and so the beginning of my learning adventure of this exceptional wine. In this sense, I still have a special memory of the 1997 vintage. The 2000s, then, were a crucial decade that allowed us to courageously carry out a stylistic revision of Tignanello, moving from dimension and power, typical of the early 2000s, to a more refined, intense and savoury style. In this sense, I still remember with emotion the 2004 and 2007 vintages as fundamental steps in this evolution. As a confirmation of the path taken, the following decade saw a gradual abandonment of the horizontal dimension, in favour of an increasingly intense style. As examples of this new approach, vintages that come to mind are 2010, 2013, 2016 and the 2021, probably the best vintage so far. As we always love to say, the most recent vintage is always the best for us, because it embodies and represents the results of these 50 years of experience, the analysis of this extraordinary hillside vineyard and, why not, mistakes. Even after 50 years, Tignanello never ceases to amaze us, vintage after vintage.”

Piero Antinori on the 1971 vintage of Tignanello:
“Tignanello has always had a special place in the heart of me and my family. In those very rare occasions that I taste that first 1971 vintage, it always arouses great emotions in me as I’m still able to recognize its distinguished character that had inspired us back then and that has guided us through the vintages. By questioning conventions of that time, our will was to express the full potential of this extraordinary hill and this specific vineyard, and we knew we had a wine that, in hopes and intentions, could fulfil that desire. As I always like to say, "tradition is a successful innovation". An innovation that works well and that is successful becomes a tradition, and so it was for Tignanello. A milestone in Tuscan winemaking, the wine contributed to the movement known as “The Renaissance” of Italian wine. To have had the chance to contribute to its creation, inception and affirmation over the years, is something that has changed my perspective and that I still cherish these days.”
